An after-school art and creative writing studio where every tutor is a working artist — illustrators, photographers, novelists, animators — teaching the moves they actually use to make a living.
Each class is small, mentor-led, and built around making real, finished work. No filling in printable workbooks. Ever.
Observational drawing, life drawing, character design, and illustration. Two hours, weekly, with a working illustrator.
Start drawingFrom colour theory to building real paintings. End-of-term gallery show — every student gets a wall.
Start paintingComposition, light, editing. Bring your camera (or phone) — leave with a portfolio of work you actually like.
Start shootingiPad-based illustration, character design, animation principles. Tablets provided. Software included.
Start creatingStory craft, voice, revision. Workshopping every week with a published novelist or screenwriter.
Start writingA rolling selection of student work from the last six months — paintings, photos, illustrations, and the strange beautiful things in between.
Every Spark tutor has a working art practice. They sell paintings, publish novels, photograph for magazines, animate for studios. They teach in the evenings because the act of helping a kid find their voice is — they tell us — the deepest part of being an artist.
So our students aren't taught by retired teachers reciting last decade's curriculum. They're taught by people who are figuring out the same questions, this week, in their own studios.
Send us anything — a sketch, a photo, a single sentence. We'll write back personally and book you a free trial class.
Our studio is a converted warehouse in the creative quarter — paint on the floor, plants in the window, music always on. Drop in on Saturday for an open studio.
